Metropolitan Area Planning Commission Special Session Minutes
November 30, 1956

body

The City Planning Commission of Jonesboro, Arkansas, met in special session on Friday, November 30, 1956, at 7:30 P.M., in the Engineering Office of City Water and Light Plant.

MEMBERS PRESENT:  Planning Commissioners Jesse Banks, Dean Ellis, C.D. Frierson, Mrs. Clifford Hill, Lloyd Rebsamen, Elmer Stuck, and Neal Thayer.

OTHERS PRESENT:  Mr. John Voorhees and Mr. Bob Shepard, both of the University of Arkansas Planning Division.

MEMBERS ABSENT:  Planning Commissioners Al Hendrix and Minor Markle.

Minutes of the meeting held September 26, 1956, were read and approved.

The commission considered a plat of Pyle 2nd Addition to the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, one print of which had been presented to the secretary by Alderman Hoyt Copeland.  After discussion, secretary was instructed to contact Mr. Pyle and ask him to furnish the required number of prints in accordance with ordinances and to call his attention to street widths shown on the plat, which are not in accordance with the ordinance, and any other variances.

Chairman Rebsamen presented Mr. John Voorhees, who in turn introduced Mr. Bob Shepard, who discussed in detail the progress of the preparation of a legal map for the City of Jonesboro, together with land use map and other work under the contract with the University, authorized by the commission on July 13, 1956.

Mr. Shepard stated that the maps could be enlarged to a full legal map, with all subdivision descriptions, lot numbers and sizes, for the entire city and adjoining territory at an additional cost of about $1500.00.  Commission tentatively approved this proposal on the proposition that the map could be sold to abstractors, banks, insurance agencies and public utilities and that perhaps the county would participate in its cost.  Mr. Voorhees agreed to send a sample sheet to the commission, which could be used in contacting various people who might be interested in purchasing a set of these maps.

Meeting adjourned.
