CITY COUNCIL MINUTES OCTOBER 4, 1982

 

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday October 4, 1982, at 7:30 P.M. Present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and all aldermen.

 

The minutes of September 20, 1982, were approved as mailed on motion by Mr. Sanderson, second by Mr. Hannah.

 

Mr. Haggenmacher moved that the appointment of Gene Roebuck to the Airport Commission be approved, seconded by Mr. Stricklin, all voted aye.

 

On motion by Mr. Stricklin, second by Mr. Shelton and unanimous vote of council, $5,851.00 from Capital improvements was allocated for the Cities match for Mo Pac Railroad Crossing at Manila Street.

 

No bids were received for block and brick laying for the fire tower. Mr. Stricklin moved that the City re-advertise for bids’ with a thirty-day (30) day completion date. Motion seconded by Mr. Mays, all voted aye.

 

Mr. Shelton offered the following ordinance:

 

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

The following ordinance was on 2nd reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING PARKING AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Jim Lyons addressed council concerning the parking on Gilmore Street and asked council to consider leaving part of the west side open for parking. More discussion will follow when the ordinance is on third reading.

 

Mr. Shelton moved that permission be granted for placing a mobile home at 208 Hickory provided that the house is removed. Motion seconded by Mr. Hinson, all voted aye.

 

The Chief of Police was asked to look into the problem of cars parking on both sides of East Washington, which is presenting a traffic hazard.

 

Mr. Hannah moved that the City advertise for sale two used vehicles, which have been used by the Parks Department during the summer. Motion seconded by Mr. Park, all aye.

 

Mr. Sanderson moved that Fall Clean Sweep be held the week of October 18, seconded by Mr. Smith. Mr. Hannah voted nay, all others voted aye.

 

With there being no further business, council adjourned.
