CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, SEPTEMBER 2, 1980

 

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Tuesday, September 2, at 7:30 p.m. Present, Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk, all aldermen.

 

On motion by Mr. Sanderson, seconded by Mr. Shelton, and unanimous vote of council, the minutes of August 18, were approved as mailed.

 

The following ordinance was on third reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE CLOSING A PORTION OF SCHOOL STREET BETWEEN THORN AND CLARK

 

Mr. Park moved that the ordinance be tabled, seconded by Mr. Haggenmacher. Voting

Aye: Park, Bridger, Minx, Mays and Haggenmacher. Voting nay: Sanderson, Hinson, Shelton, Hannah, Haigler, Stricklin, Province. Motion failed. Mr. Hannah moved for the adoption of the ordinance, seconded by Mr. Shelton. Voting Aye: Sanderson, Hinson, Shelton, Bridger, minx, Hannah, Stricklin, Province, Mays. Voting nay, Haigler and Haggenmacher. Mr. Park passed. The ordinance was adopted and assigned #1729.

 

Mr. Hinson offered the following ordinance:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

On Motion by Mr. Hinson, seconded by Mr. Shelton and unanimous vote of council, the rules were suspended and the ordinance was placed on second reading. Mr. Sanderson then moved that the rules be further suspended and the ordinance be placed on third reading, seconded by Mr. Shelton, all aye. Mr. Sanderson moved for the adoption of the ordinance to include the emergency clause, seconded by Mr. Hinson, all aye and the ordinance was assigned #1730.

 

Mr. Hannah moved that permission be granted for placing a mobile home at 1207 E. Washington seconded by Mr. Sanderson and the only dissenting vote was cast by Mr. Minx.

 

Mr. Haggenmacher moved for the appointment of Phil Pickle to the Airport Commission, seconded by Mr. Sanderson, all aye.

 

Mr. Sanderson moved that the City proceed with street overlays, seconded by Mr. Hinson, all aye.

 

There being no further business, council adjourned.
