RESOLUTION CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO ELECT AN ALDERMAN TO THE FOURTH WARD

WHEREAS, the election commissioners of Craighead County, Arkansas did on January 13, 1960 certify that at the last regular election of city officials held in Jonesboro Arkansas on November 3, 1959, the following votes were cast, counted, and certified for the candidates as shown:

 

William E. Ebbert 1918

John Kaffka 1918

 

WHEREAS, that by reason of the tie vote and neither candidate having received a majority, the election commission did not certify the election of either.

 

WHEREAS, Act No.34 of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas for the year 1875 (Arkansas Statutes 1947) Section 3-1018 and Section 3-1601 and Section 3-803 provides in such a case of a tie vote, the Governor shall issue a Writ of Election, directed to the Sheriff of the proper county in which such election shall be held on a day set out in the Writ of Election, said election to be held within 30 days from the date of the Writ of Election.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Jonesboro, Arkansas that the Honorable Orval E. Faubus, Governor of the State of Arkansas, be and is hereby requested to issue a Writ of Election calling a special election in the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas to be held on the 1st day of March, 1960, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. for the purpose of electing one alderman of the Fourth Ward of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and that the City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Governor.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that only qualified electors of the City of Jonesboro will have a right to vote in said special election to b held upon the date herein above set out, at the following polling places in the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas to-wit:

 

First Ward                     Jonesboro Equipment Co.

Second Ward                     City Hall

Third Ward                      Old City Hall

Fourth Ward                     Community Center #1

Fifth Ward                     Doan Buick Co.

Sixth Ward                     Fire Station

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 18th day of January, 1960.
