AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE JONESBORO CODE OF ORDINANCES, SECTION 8.44.14, KNOWN AS “PARKING TIME LIMITS DESIGNATED” TO  SPECIFY LEASE AND FREE PARKING LOTS, AND ESTABLISH THEREFORE AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro as follows:

 

SECTION 1: That the Jonesboro Municipal Code, Section 8.44.14, entitled “Parking Time Limits Designated” should be amended as follows:  

 

(A)  The parking lot located at the corner of Union and Huntington Avenue in the City of Jonesboro containing 38 spaces shall be designated as two-hour parking.

 

(B)  That the parking lot located at the Northwest corner of Jefferson and Church Street in the City of Jonesboro containing Forty-Two (42) leased spaces and nine (9) two-hour spaces, shall be designated as “Leased Parking Only” for a total of 51 spaces.

 

(C)  That the parking lot adjoining Union, located south of Abilities Unlimited, shall designate the front 15 parking spaces as “Leased Parking Only” with the remaining spaces being designated as unlimited free parking.

 

SECTION 2: That the cost per leased space in the above designated for lease only parking lots shall be at the rate of $15.00 per month per space, to be paid quarterly.

 

SECTION 3: That the monies collected for parking violations shall be placed in the Parking Meter Fund, as recommended by the Parking Committee.

 

SECTION 4: That the amendments as designated within this Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force as of April 1, 1996.

 

SECTION 5: That it is found and declared by the City Council that the proper designated parking lots located in downtown Jonesboro is impeding business development in downtown Jonesboro, and that revenues are being lost due to lack of designation of leased parking in the above referenced parking lots.

 

NOW THEREFORE, an emergency is declared to exist, and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of public peace, health and safety shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage and approval.
