CITY COUNCIL MINUTES - JUNE 4, 1984

 

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, June 4, 1984, at 7:30 p.m. Present were Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney, and all aldermen except Mr. Schaaf and Mr. Nix.

 

The minutes of May 21, 1984, were approved on motion by Mr. Park, seconded by Mr. Shelton. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Hannah moved, seconded by Mr. Shelton, to hold an appeal on a rezoning decision by the MAPC concerning a lot on the corner of Cole at Nettleton. The date of the hearing will be June 18, 1984, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. All voted aye.

 

In reference to a rezoning of a portion of Highland Drive - the Kissinger property - Judy Hinson, City Attorney, advised that the property owners should continue to pursue the passage of the rezoning ordinance and that she would draw a contract stating how the land can be used with no exceptions.

 

Mr. Sanderson offered the following ordinance: (Vacate Primrose)

 

AN ORDINANCE TO VACATE THE EAST 105 FEET OF PRIMROSE STREET

 

Mr. Shelton moved, seconded by Mr. Park to hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on June 18, 1984, at City Hall concerning the closing of a portion of Apache Drive. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Hannah offered the following ordinance: (R-3 to C-3 - N. Main & Gordon)

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE #954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

 

Mr. Province offered the following ordinance: (Traffic Control)

 

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Hinson offered the following ordinance: (Annex property on Belt Street)

 

AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING CERTAIN LANDS ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, BY ORDER OF THE COUNTY COURT OF CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, ARKANSAS ASSIGNING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY TO WARD 3, ZONING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY RESIDENTIAL (R-2); DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Bridger moved, seconded by Mr. Shelton, to suspend the rules and place the ordinance on 2nd reading. All voted aye.

 

The following ordinance was on second reading: (Annex - Hickory Heights)

 

AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING CERTAIN LANDS ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, BY ORDER OF THE COUNTY COURT OF CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, ARKANSAS; ASSIGNING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY TO WARD 6; ZONING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY RESIDENTIAL (R-1); DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

The following ordinance was on 3rd reading: (R-1 to C-3 Spurlock Add.)

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE ORDINANCE #954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND OR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Mays moved, seconded by Mr. Blevins, to table the ordinance so that the City Engineer could resolve some pending problems. All voted aye.

 

The following bid was on review:

 

84:18 - Air Cond. For City Hall - Mr. Park moved, seconded by Mr. Sanderson to award the bid to the low bidder - D & B Mechanical with the extension of completion of three (3) weeks. All voted aye. The extension of three weeks was added to enable the company to install the system without turning off the existing unit.

 

Mr. Stricklin moved, seconded by Mr. Hannah, to move $3,500.00 from unappropriated general funds to Fire Department part time salaries. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Hannah moved, seconded by Mr. Park, to move $1,500.00 unappropriated money in the Capital Improvement fund to fixed assets in the Street Department in order that the Street Department can purchase new radio equipment. All voted aye.

 

There being no further business, council adjourned.
