CITY COUNCIL MINUTES MARCH 3, 1980

 

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, March 3, 1980, at 7:30 p.m. Present: Mayor, City Attorney, and the following named aldermen: Park, Sanderson, Shelton, Bridger, Minx, Hannah, Haigler, Stricklin, Province, Mays and Haggenmacher. Absent: City Clerk and Hinson.

 

Mr. Bob Coatsworth of Citizens Bank reported to council concerning issuance of residential housing bonds. Mr. Stricklin then offered the following ordinance:

 

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1657 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS; CHANGING THE NAME OF THE FACILITIES BOARD CREATED IN SUCH ORDINANCE TO THE “CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS RESIDENTIAL HOUSING AND HEALTH CARE FACILITIES BOARD”; EXPANDING THE POWERS OF SAID FACILITIES BOARD PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ACT NO. 142 OF THE ACTS OF ARKANSAS; PRESCRIBING OTHER MATTERS RELATING THERETO; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY

 

The following ordinance was on third reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING CERTAIN LANDS ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS: BY ORDER OF THE COUNTY COURT OF CRAIGHEAD COUNTY ARKANSAS, DATED DECEMBER 26, 1979; ASSIGNING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY TO WARD 6; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Mays moved for the adoption of the ordinance, seconded by Mr. Stricklin. All voted aye and the ordinance was assigned #1714.

 

Mr. Shelton offered the following ordinance:

 

AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING CERTAIN LANDS ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS BY ORDER OF THE COUNTY COURT OF CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, ARKANSAS; ASSIGNING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY TO WARD 4; ZONING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY RESIDENTIAL (R-2); DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Haggenmacher offered the following ordinance:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO PROHIBIT THE STORAGE, HANDLING OR USE OF CLASS I FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS AND COMBUSTIBLE CLASS II AND III LIQUIDS ON RESIDENTIAL LOTS LOCATED WITHIN THE MUNICIPAL LIMITS OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO; PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS OF SAID ORDINANCE AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

The following bids were opened for a rear mounted rotary mower:

 

Jonesboro Ford Tractor                      $564.50

Town & Country International                     588.00

 

Mr. Shelton moved that the low bid be approved, seconded by Ms. Haigler. All voted aye.

 

The following bids were reviewed for a one-ton dump truck:

 

Central Chevrolet                      $8,247.00

O’Neal Ford                     8,764.72

Keasler Body Co.                     1,998.20 (dump bed only)

 

Mr. Minx moved that the bid be tabled, seconded by Mr. Haggenmacher. All voted aye.

 

The following bids were opened for bleachers for Parks Department:

                     

Tom Beverly & Asc.                     $2,264.00

Bergfeld Recreation                     2,688.00

Diversified Recreation                     2,848.00

All American Sports                     3,436.00

 

Mr. Park moved for the approval of the low bid, seconded by Mr. Mays. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Glen Bradley made a presentation to the council concerning additional sirens and informed them of application for federal funding for fifty percent. Mayor Stallings asked the Finance Committee to make a report to council on the ability of city to match the grant.

 

Mr. Hannah moved that bids be advertised for three additional sirens for the city, seconded by Ms. Haigler. All voted aye.

 

There being no further business, council adjourned.
