Minutes for the City Council meeting on December 2, 1963

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark. met in regular session at City Hall, Monday night, December 2, 1963, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Sammons, Griffin, Wilson, Bridger, Brickell, Stallings, Snow, Kelly, Cook, Ledbetter, Mays and Heern.
After Attorney Bill Penix filed a petition from interested property owners, Mr. Griffin offered the following resolution:
RESOLUTION TO VACATE AND ABANDON AN ALLEY RUNNING FROM MAIN STREET TO SCHOOL STREET TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS
Mr. Mays moved with Mr. Griffin seconding the motion that the resolution be adopted. On the roll call, all voted aye and the motion carried. The resolution was given the number 1963:24.
After Mr. Neal Thayer filed with Council a resolution of the Municipal Airport Commission, recommending the release of the City’s obligations comprising 218.813 acres of land from the FAA at the airport, Mr. Mays offered the following resolution:
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO ACCEPT THE TERMS OF A RELEASE BY THE FAA FROM GRANT AGREEMENTS
Mr. Brickell made the motion, seconded by Mr. Cook that the resolution be adopted. Roll was called. All voted aye and the motion carried. The resolution was given the number 1963:25.
Mr. Thayer informed Council of the Airport Commission’s recommendation to grant an easement for the telephone company. Mr. Mays moved with Mr. Ledbetter seconding the motion that Council postpones action on this recommendation and that it be referred to the Street Committee for its recommendation. On calling the roll, all voted aye and the motion carried.
Mr. Cook made the motion, seconded by Mr. Mays that the selection of an auditor for the 1963 City’s audit be referred to the Finance Committee. On the roll call, all voted aye and the motion carried.
Mr. Mays moved with Mr. Brickell seconding the motion that the bills as okayed by the Finance Committee be paid. Roll was called. All aye and the motion carried.
There being no further business, Council voted unanimously to adjourn.
