The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark., met in regular session at City Hall, Monday night, May 2, 1960, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Parks, Williams, Sammons, Smith, Brickell, Heern, Snow, Kenward, Field, Griffin, Copeland and Ebbert.

 

The Mayor appointed the following to the Plumbing Examining Board: James Danley and Shorty Clark, Master Plumbers, and Jethro Brooks, as a Journeyman, and W.H. Meador, the City Inspector. Mr. Snow made the motion seconded by Mr. Field that the appointments be approved and accepted. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.

 

The City Attorney read the following ordinance and placed it on the first reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION VII OF ORDINANCE NO. 1000 OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, SAME BEING AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE OFFICE OF CITY INSPECTOR AND COMBINING THE OFFICES OF BUILDING, PLUMBING, ELECTRICAL AND GAS INSPECTORS, PRESCRIBING THE QUALIFICATIONS THEREFORE AND DUTIES THEREOF, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Ebbert made the motion seconded by Mr. Copeland that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on the second reading. Roll was called. Mr. Snow voted no and all other members voted aye. Motion carried. Mr. Copeland made the motion seconded by Mr. Griffin that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on the third and final reading. Roll was called. MR. Snow voted no and all other members voted aye. Motion carried. Mr. Heern made the motion seconded by Mr. Kenward that the ordinance be adopted. Roll was called. Mr. Snow voted no and all other members voted aye. The Mayor declared the ordinance adopted. Roll was called on the emergency clause and all voted aye, except Mr. Snow who voted no. The ordinance was given the number 1012.

 

Mr. Snow made the motion seconded by Mr. Ebbert that the bills as okayed by the Finance Committee be paid. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.

 

Mr. Parks made the motion seconded by Mr. Brickell that the Mayor be directed to publish a notice in the newspaper that effective June 1, 1960, the City will enforce laws and ordinances will commence cutting back and removing all shrubs, trees or other obstructions which impair visibility at street corners and intersections. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.

 

There being no further business, Council voted unanimously to adjourn.
