RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS ADDING RETIRED EMPLOYEES TO CITY GROUP HOSPITALIZATION INSURANCE COVERAGE.

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, in an effort to provide additional benefits to City Employees, desires to extend the opportunity for membership in the City’s group hospitalization insurance program to retired employees.
WHEREAS, eligible employee shall be defined as follows:
UNIFORMED RETIREE- any employee who has retired in accord with the requirements for retirement as set forth in the City of Jonesboro Police Pension Fund, the City of Jonesboro Fire Pension Funs, of LOPFI.
NON-UNIFORMED RETIREE- any employee or elected official who has completed a minimum of twenty years of continuous employment or service with the City of Jonesboro.
WHEREAS, any employee who retires after January 1, 1984, is under the age of 65, and meets the criteria set forth above shall be eligible for the group coverage until he/she reaches the age of 65 and shall be given the opportunity to choose either individual or family plans for coverage.
WHEREAS, retired employees will be required to pay the entire premium in advance by the 15th day of each month. Failure to submit the payment by the required payment date will result in the retiree’s removal from the group plan.
WHEREAS, each retired employee must elect to receive the benefit upon retirement and submit payment to the City by the first 15th day of the month following retirement.
WHEREAS, any employee who retired after January 1, 1984 but before the passage of this resolution is considered to be an exception to the above election of benefits requirement and each of these cases will be considered independently by the Insurance Committee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT the opportunity for membership in the City’s group hospitalization insurance program be extended to retired employees in accordance with the criteria set forth above and any procedures set forth by the Insurance Committee of the City Council of the City of Jonesboro.
