AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 1270, THE SAME BEING AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR RE-INSPECTIONS; NOTICE TO PUT IN SAFE CONDITIONS; EXISTING BUILDINGS, UNDER THE ELECTRICAL CODE FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS

BE IT ORDAINED AND ENACTED by the Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: Section 1 of Ordinance 1270 is amended as follows:

 

                     Re-inspections: Notice to put in safe conditions: Existing Buildings.

 

A.                     The Electrical Inspector is hereby empowered to inspector is inspect or re-inspect, or to have inspected or re-inspected, all interior apparatus and wires conducting electrical current for light, or power and when conductors or apparatuses are found to be unsafe to life or property, he shall notify the person owning or using the same, to place the same in a safe and secure condition within 48 hours. Any person failing to comply with such shall be punished as hereinafter provided.

B.                     No system or installation of interior wiring in any commercial or industrial building which has been vacated shall be used again as an electrical conductor without re-inspection by the electrical inspector. The electrical inspector for good cause shown may issue a temporary permit in such cases until re-inspection can be made.

 

Section 2: Of Ordinance No. 1270 is amended as follows: Inspection fees.

 

A.                     Before beginning any electrical work within the area of jurisdiction of the city electrical inspector, the person installing same shall make application for the required inspections and pay all fees for said inspections. A double inspection fee shall be assessed to any person, firm, or corporation commencing any electrical work prior to making application for the required inspections and the payment of all fees for said inspections.

B.                     The application for electrical inspections shall be accompanied by fees in accordance with the following schedule:

 

1. Application, Issuance Fee.

Residential                                                                                    $2.00

Commercial/Industrial buildings and

Apartments over 2 Units                                          $4.00

 

2.                     Service Entrance.

                                          First 100 Amps.                                                               $2.00

                                          Over 100 to 1200 Amps. Per 100                     $1.00

                                          Over 1200 Amps Per 100 Amps                        .50

 

3.                     Circuits.

First Circuit                                                                                    $2.00

2 to 10 Circuits, each                                                                 .65

Over 10 Circuits, each                                                                 .35

4.                     Motors and Connected Horsepower.

First Horsepower or Outlet                                          $2.00

2 to 10 Horsepower or Outlet, each                         .30     

Additional Horsepower or

Outlet, each                                                                                        .15

5.                     Commercial/Industrial Building Re-inspection fee. The inspection fee for the re-inspection of a Commercial/Industrial Building under the provisions of Section 8-7b shall be $4.00. An application issuance fee shall not be assessed for inspections requested under the provisions of Section 8-7b.

 

C.                     An additional fee of $2.00 shall be assessed for each additional trip on the part of the Electrical Inspector, caused by the negligence of the electrician.

D.                     All fees assessed under Section 8-8 shall be collected by the City Collector and then paid over to the City Treasurer.

E.                     Where motors and generators are combined as Motor/Generator sets, the permit fee shall be based on the motor only.

F.                     When generators and motors are installed at the same time, and the generators are to supply current for the motors, permit fees shall be based on the horse-power of the generators of the motors, whichever is the greater in horsepower.

 

Section 3: All Ordinances and or parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

 

Section 4: It is found and declared by the City Council that this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall take effects from and after its passage and approval.
